End: Timed write

Everyone has their own opinions on how family's should live and how children should be raised. For instance in my own perception I feel that children should be raised in a stable environment with a mom and dad. I was raise knowing the difference between right and wrong. I wouldn't have tried any of the "over the line" things Bo did in the movie and my parents would never act the way that her parents did in the film. I would call this family a disfunctional family. In the movie and the group discussion non-conformity was challenged by these "over the line" factors: nudity, depression, strangers, and lying.

In the beginning of the movie Bo tells us about her fathers depression. I personally have never dealt with anyone dealing with depression. Maybe that's why I didn't understand how Charlie sat around all day and let this sickness in his head take up everyday of his life for the summer. In the discussion board a student told me about how he was depressed but he still had to take car of stuff and fight through his depression. You could tell Bo thought the same thing, she wanted him to suck it up and get over it. Bo is just a little girl, she applies for a credit card in the beginning of the movie and ends up getting it in the end of the movie. She buys her father a boat and charges it on the credit card, which she can't pay back. This is totally not acceptable, what parents in their right minds are letting their kids do this? Throughout the movie Bo writes letters to different business's lying to them about their products. She will say how she found an animal feces in it and they will send her boxes of free food, this is lying and wrong. In the discussion board there were a few people that also agreed with me that this was crossing the line for a little girl to be doing.

During the movie the IRS agent comes to look over their taxes. He walks up to the house and notices Arlene gardening naked like it's no big deal. The agent, William, ends up living with the family. First of all, in my community we would never let a stranger that we didn't know live with us. He could be a murder for all we know. Second, children will get confused if you let a stranger live with them that they don't know and we teach our children not to talk to strangers.Crossing the line doesn't end there, during the movie Charlie walks out naked right in front of his daughter. And as I mentioned earlier Arlene was naked in the garden and Bo was outside when she was naked. This is definitely crossing the line, kids in my culture don't see their parents private parts. I was taught to keep my privates covered up that their only for myself. As you can see there are different persepectives of what "over the line" is. Some families think stuff is "over the line" that other families wouldn't think was.
